Comparison; Frankenstein book v.s movie

I greatly enjoyed both the book and the movie, I found them both very suspenseful and able to keep me intrigued throughout the entire experience. The overall summary for both is basically; A young man by the name of Victor Frankenstein was very bright, and lived under the roof of a fairly wealthy family. The family, when victor was still young, gained the company of a young lady named Elizabeth. Victor was always curious on the sciences but later became more infatuated with the science of life. Victor later went to a prestigious medical college called ingolstadt to further his knowledge on life sciences. Victor in turn learned how to create life and created a monster, his monster, whom soon escaped and was unleashed upon the world. Upon the monsters release the chase began, victor chased the monster only to find destruction in his wake. First the death of young William Frankenstein and the following execution of Justine, the young maiden whom served the Frankenstein wholeheartedly, due to accusations of murder. Frankenstein learned the monsters full story soon after seeking refuge from the malevolent thoughts that ravaged his mind, the monster found and told victor of his plights then demanded that Victor create a lover for the monster, in the monsters image, Victor agrees with the monster to create another. Victor then conflicted with his morals and his promise with the monster destroys the second creation in progress, the monster then vows for revenge. Victor and Elizabeth are due to marry, the monster then murders Victor’s best friend Henry. The monster takes the life of Elizabeth after the marriage of her and Victor. After this part in the main summary is where the book and movie truly split.

The book:

In the book Frankenstein is accused of murder soon after this series of events, but later is found to be innocent. Victor then vows to get revenge on the monster for killing and extinguishing all that Victor ever loved. Victor then chases the monster across the world and winds up in the arctic where he ultimately met his demise and died of unknown causes among the company of captain Walton and his men whom were listening to Victors entire story. The monster then visits his dead creator and vows to go and die.

The movie:

In the movie after Elizabeth’s death Victor frantically tries to bring Elizabeth back to life. Hes winds up succeeding and the monster tries to claim Elizabeth for himself, but Elizabeth appalled with what Victor has done winds up taking her life by setting herself ablaze and falling off the grand staircase in the Frankenstein manor. Then the story fast forwards to where victor slowly dies in the company of captain Walton. The monster then morns and agrees to take part in the funeral of his dead creator. When the funeral is taking place the ice hold Walton’s ship in place breaks and everyone begins to flee, but the monster feeling that his life is now over because of his creator’s death, takes his own life by setting himself and Victor’s corpse ablaze.

Overall:

In conclusion the movie stayed relatively close to how the book was written, except for some bits and pieces of information and events. The movie changed; how Victor came upon how to create life, the death of Justine( which was by lynching party, she had and entire trial in the book), it skipped over the journey of Henry and Victor to England then to Scotland, It changed the initial creation of the monsters companion, it changed some of the events in the story of the monster, how Elizabeth died, resurrecting Elizabeth, it skips the journey of Victor chasing the monster to the arctic, it changes the ending on how the monsters speech is not included and it added the funeral of Victor and the monster lighting himself on fire. The book and movie both had their highlights and downfalls but the both were fairly exciting and I would enjoy reading and even watching both the book and movie again.
